Body Mind Soul and Spirit is you.

The difference on your face and within your body after reflexology is visible and you can feel the difference in your feet after the treatment. You can also see the difference on your feet. The colour is better, the skin is usually softer and the painful spots which were there on the beginning are less or gone altogether. Reflexology is not a miracle treatment or cure but what it does immediately is that it will relax and re energise you.

The amount of pressure we use is individual. Some people like firm, some people like soft touch. So this is all on body level.

Lets talk just briefly about spirit, soul and mind. You, body, mind, soul, spirit - a simple mind map

These are huge topics that can be explained in so many ways and are still being researched. What I have learned in my training as a nurse is called holistic nursing. Also as Reflexologists we look at the whole of the person and not just the body. We look at a persons culture, tradition, beliefs and work together on a level we are both happy with.

Healing can happen on very different levels in very different ways

When I was working in the children intensive care in Amsterdam, Holland in 1982, we, team of doctors, nurses, allied Health etc, also worked with a psychic healer on a child that was suffering of severe and long lasting seizures (epileptic fits) and medical treatment was not working. This was at the mothers request and I would love to see that we could work together as a team of healers in a hospital setting like we did then.

We are, here in Australia, working together with physio therapy, dietitian, psychiatry and so on but why not more of natural therapies?

For instance  Reflexology and /or Kinesiology which is a different kind of healing again and working on different levels of body, mind and Spirit. Also massage therapy or natural therapy and the list goes on. Luckily our young doctors and a few of the older ones are well aware of the variety of healing available and I sense an acceptance and willingness to work together. So my hopes are up for the near future being able to work as a Reflexologist in hospital one day.

Reflexology is a complementary therapy. It complements the medical prescribed treatment. We have time to talk or if you choose not to than that of course is fine too. Our care is non invasive and has no negative side effects other than what we call a healing crisis. Which only happens in 10% of all clients and often can be prevented by drinking extra water after a treatment. The healing crisis is sometimes felt as extremely tired the next day or can be a cold or a flue as a response of the body needing renewing and cleaning the systems. Most often though you feel re energised which can last for some time.

We are more than a body. Inside the body there are several layers of energy channels. In the Chinese medicine we learn about energy channels called Meridians and they are located in the body. In the Indian Ayurveda medicine we called them Nadia.

We also work with energy. Energy comes in many forms but is unseen. It can be felt through feelings. For example when you meet someone you like then the energy/feeling is coming out into perhaps a smile or a warm feeling in your body,  a butterfly feeling in your stomach maybe when you are in love?!

The energy changes and it is important that you have a positive mind set and a believe into your own healing. What you set in your mind and what you believe that will happen. I will expand on that in a later blog.

One example in Reflexology is when we finish the treatment with holding the toes in a certain sequence we intend to close that energy system that is unseen. Very often when we take our hands off ,the client still thinks we have the hands on. Again that is that energy we talk about and can not be seen but it can be felt.

I have written a few stories that I like to share with you if you are interested. They are personal stories. I feel that nothing is just a coincidence. Things happen for a reason to us. We are supposed to learn from our experiences and things will keep on happening to us for a reason. This is the same for illness. It happens so we get stronger and learn from what we are going through. I am looking forward to your comments and even though you may not share any of the thoughts and beliefs I write in these stories I fully respect that.

However when it comes to Reflexology I think you could at least try it before you say it is not for you. Also just remember that Reflexology is not a foot massage.  In Australia and around the world there are different levels of Reflexology . Please look for Reflexologists that are registered with a Professional organisation.

Our professional organisation is called Reflexology Association of Australia. When you go to their website you can see who is a professional member and who practices close by where you live.

Please also be aware that my view on healing and life may not be shared by other Reflexologists. But a professional Reflexologist has had a high standard of training and needs to adhere to minimum standards and keep up to date with research on a yearly basis. We have a professional magazine called footprints where many articles are being shared. We have conferences throughout the world where we learn from each other. Different techniques we can use and apply. More about that in a later blog.

Please find my first story just below and click on the link. It is only a short story and I intend to include a story with every next blog.

Hope you will enjoy the story and I look forward to see you in the next blog.

Happy feet , Happy life.
